Twelve years ago, Shekinah and Christopher Samaya-Thomas purchased their Oakland home through the Oakland Community Land Trust (OakCLT), an organization that expands and preserves affordable housing for low-income residents and communities of color. Between 2011 and 2012, OakCLT helped 20 Oakland residents purchase homes at below-market prices.
